January 26th - AUSTRALIA DAY


Next week we will work at class some cultural aspects about the Australia Day.It is on 26th January and commemorates the establishment of the first European settlement at Port Jackson,now part of Sidney, in 1788.

AUSTRALIA DAY’S SYMBOLS
Australia Day’s symbols are : the national flag and the national anthem “Advance Australia Fair”.
Other symbols are : the Golden Wattle, the opal and the national colours of green and gold.

WHAT DO PEOPLE DO
Many people have a day off work and go on a picnic in a park, go shopping, play sports or watch sports events.
In some towns and cities, citizenship ceremonies are held, ceremonies to welcome immigrants who have been granted Australian citizenship.
